Confessions of a Nail Tech x Laurart
Maria MGMadam Glam introduces a new blog series willing to inspire not only future nail technicians but beauty and nail lovers too. By each interview we’ll take, you will get the chance to know & see what it takes to be a nail tech nowadays, how to start a career, what inspires our nail techs or what challenges they’ve been through, what tips & tricks they have for us and many, many more!
For episode 5, we talked about nails with Laurart, one of our fav nail techs and we found out how she started her career, how she built her Youtube channel and what inspired her along the way.
Let’s follow Laura's journey! ✨
MG: When did you start your career? What do you enjoy most about doing nails?
I started doing my nails about 3 years ago. It’s really fun and relaxing for me. I like exploring all the new possibilities of nail art. I love the fact that you can just look at you nails and enjoy it. Other cosmetics you have got to look in the mirror.
MG: Who were/was the biggest inspiration/s for your nail technician career?
Suzie Moskal from the Youtube channel "Nail Career Education" and Cristine Rotenberg from “Simply Nailogical”.
MG: Why did you start the Youtube channel?
Just for fun! I guess I started out of curiosity of if and the happy feeling of sharing. I uploaded my first video on Jun 24, 2015. It was a watercolour bookmark tutorial, later on, I posted lots of videos with polymer clay creations. My youtube channel represents my current hobbies at the time.
MG: What's your favorite gadget?
My Kindle, even though I still love actual paper books.
MG: Do you have any fav designs you like to create?
My favorite designs involve lots of glitter and chrome powders. I really like doing dry marble technique as if it's something that is super easy to achieve and doesn't require any special tools. I really enjoy the process of adding and mixing colors, and with gels the play time is endless as they won’t dry like the regular polish would.
MG: How many gels do you own? What are your 3 favorite gels from Madam Glam?
Too many and too many to count! My three favorites from you are Stardust, Twilight Lilac and Glittery Emerald.
MG: What’s your best tip for getting beautiful, well-groomed nails?
- CUTICLE OIL;
- safe and proper removal of gel polish;
- not using nails as tools;
- wearing protective gloves for housework like cleaning, cooking etc.
MG: Do you have any tip or advice to share with our community, younger and future nail techs or simply nail lovers?
The point is that it's very important to remember that we all start out as beginners, we all start out with no skill set. By learning the things we like, we can actually be working towards the goal of getting better at something. Read and research as many things as you can, try different techniques and products. Remember about the safety and sanitation even if you are just doing your own nails!
