Confessions of a Nail Tech x Kellie
Maria MGI actually fell into my nail career. I was unhappy in my office job and had always been very creative, I gave it a go and loved it!
MG: How did you manage to grow your Instagram account and build a strong community?
I believe that the best way to grow your following is to be authentic and show your personality, oh and post regularly!
MG: What do you enjoy most, and least, about your career?
I really enjoy connecting with other nail artists all over the world, and servicing my clients is really rewarding, least favorite thing is sometimes I can’t switch off I’m in work mode all the time!
MG: What popular nail art styles do you predict for SS21?
My predictions would be more artsy French manicure designs and more natural nail designs rather than extensions. I'm hoping that mint will be a popular SS21 color!
MG: What else would you like people to know about what you do?
Being a nail artist is the best career I could have asked for but it hasn’t come easily! Perfecting techniques, keeping on top of social media and clients and new products can be tough! But ultimately it’s so much fun.
MG: Where do you get your inspiration from?
I find inspiration from lots of places! From other nail artists, interior design, clothes, the world around us!
MG: What you love most about Madam Glam?
I love that MG is vegan and cruelty free and the polishes are so highly pigmented and creamy to apply.
MG: If you had to do it all over again, what would you change or do differently?
There is definitely one thing.... I started my nail career at 25. I wish I would have started earlier because I was never happy in any of my jobs before then if I knew then how much I would love nails I would have done it sooner!
MG: Which celebrity would be your dream client? Why?
Omg definitely Harry Styles! I love his music and his style, I’ve seen pictures of his nails before, he likes arty nails with designs so I would love to create a set for him!
MG: What is your favorite thing about the Nail Industry?
My favourite thing is definitely the community that has been built over the past few years. I qualified as a nail artist in 2014 and there was no community then, nail artists didn’t message each other and comment on and share each others work and didn’t meet in real life. There is an amazing sense of community now and that is something I think that’s really valuable for us all.
MG: Do you have any words of encouragement for new nail technicians?
When you feel like you’ve worked as hard as you can, work harder and don't give up! Be sure to connect with other nail artists in the community. It's really supportive and a great place to talk to likeminded people! And enjoy every appointment doing nails. It's supposed to be fun!
