We're starting 2023 with a new Season of "Confessions of a Nail Tech" where we get to find out more about our Glamorous Community in terms of plans, dreams, nails, life challenges, and hobbies.
This January, we're chatting with Tasha D, our little ray of sunshine! Let's read her story and find out what it takes to pursue a career in the Nail Industry.
MG: Hi! Please tell us a bit about yourself, so we can get to know you!
Hiii!!! My name is Tasha D, I have been doing nails for 13+ years, I was in the mortgage industry for 10 years before the market crashed and forced me to pivot my career. Now I can’t imagine doing anything else! Everything in my life is colorful and sparkly, from my hair, to my tattoos and piercings, to the decor of my home and salon! I am genuinely a happy person, and I have coined the phrase “Sparkle On!” as my way of sharing my “Sparkle” with the world!
MG: What is one professional goal you have for yourself this 2023?
My dream job is to work conventions for a beauty brand, educating hundreds of people a day about a company I love, so my goal this year is to make the proper connections so I can fulfill that dream!
MG: Describe a day in your life! Do you have any other hobbies besides doing nails?
My day is pretty simple (I work from home): I wake up in time to barely get dressed and ready for my 1st client, usually forget to eat most of the day, lol, work on content between clients and then my “office hours” are from 12am-2am which is when I have a couple drinks watch HGTV/Food Network and work on social media. When I am able to break away from work, I love going to karaoke at my local dive bar, checking out the fun restaurants around me or hitting the local theme park (I live 10 mins away from the mouse)
MG: Tell us how or when did you discover your passion for nails?
I fell in love with nails 6 years into my career (2016). At first I was doing it out of necessity, then after taking a couple of local classes I realized that there is a whole nail community and a never ending amount of education, it really changed everything for me.
MG: What is your favorite Madam Glam product?
That's an easy question, The Perfect Black Gel Polish is my ultimate favorite, the coverage is amazing and you can chrome right on top of it, no non-wipe top coat needed. When I think about it more, there are quite a few items that I couldn’t do without, such as the “Home Alone Collection”, any gel polish with the “peacock” glitter in it, and the rest of “The Perfect Collection” . These items will always be available in my salon, like always!
MG: Do you believe in Astrology? What’s your sign and the favorite thing about it?
I think it is fun, I don’t live by it though. Aries is my sign, I love that it represents passion, motivation and independence. These are all attributes that I can resonate with for sure!
MG: What inspires you when creating your Nail Art designs?
I love taking a look at different types of abstract art, however when it comes to creating the art itself music is the answer! Whenever it is time for the creative part of the nail appointment, I like to put some fun music on, usually alternative metal, or Eminem, as long as my client is ok with it.
MG: Who would be your dream-celebrity client?
Anyone on RuPaul’s Drag Race, or Boulet Brothers Dragula, I would love to have my nail art in the drag world!
MG: Describe yourself using 3 emojis or words.
MG: Do you have any tips or advice to share with our community?
When you find yourself discouraged or if business is a bit slow, take a moment and go back to your nail basics, focus on learning something new and putting effort into your craft, the more you nurture it the better chances you will have in succeeding. Over the years I tried so many things to supplement my nail business income, then a few years ago I started taking classes or watching videos during my down/slow time and putting that extra energy into nails really paid off.
