For the first episode, we asked Natalie Carmona, a talented young nail tech to tell us more about herself, how she started in this nail industry, what inspired her along the way...

MG: Tell us about your career. Where did it start? How did you discover your talent?  

My nail career began in 2012 during my sophomore year in high school. However, my very first time getting acrylic nails was the summer before I started 5th grade. I remember sitting there, watching every move the lady made while doing my nails and I was just so mesmerized.  

Also, during my time in middle school, I would help a neighbor around the house which allowed me to make enough money to get my nails done. I had what I called my “personal nail tech” who did whatever I asked for on my nails. Every time she did my nails, I would sit and watch everything that she was doing to the point where I eventually felt like I could do my own nails if I tried.  That’s when I finally decided to start doing my own nails as she offered to teach me as well as take me to the nail supply store to buy all my materials.  

Once I convinced my parents to help fund the supplies needed, I contacted my nail tech, but she blocked me and I never heard from her again...   

I decided to start my nail-journey on my own by watching YouTube videos and practicing day in and day out while using my younger sister as my model. Now, 7 years later, I am still working super hard to stay on top of all the new nail trends as well as helping people out through my YouTube videos as I was once in their shoes. 

MG: What inspires you?  

What inspired me to start doing nails was my nail tech, her blocking me and not wanting to help me after offering to, inspired me to work even harder and be able to do people’s nails to their liking. 
 

MG: What are 3 of your favorite Madam Glam’s gel colors?  

My 3 all time favorite gel polish shades are: Angel Wings, Neon Sun and Mimosa. 

MG: What kind of nail trends should we look for this summer?  

Hmmm...Nail trends to look for this summer would be plenty of super bright colors! Also, look for animal prints, glitters, and lots and lots of bling!!!

MG: Which Hollywood star would be your dream client? Why? 

If I could have a Hollywood star as a client, I would love to do Ellen Pompeo’s nails, the actress is well-known for her role in the popular TV series, Grey’s Anatomy. She is so down to earth and one day, I would really love to meet her and work with her! 

MG: A few inspirational words or ideas you would like to share with our readers, future nail technicians or just nail lovers? 

I would like to tell those that are nail beginners to not give up! Even when your client’s nails are breaking and popping off, do not give up! Practice really does makes perfect and you will only get better with time, so just pick the brush back up and try again!
