MG: Hi! Please tell us a bit about yourself, so we can get to know you!
My name is Richa and I currently reside in the suburbs of Toronto. I was born in India but soon moved to Libya as my dad was working there as an engineer. I moved back to India again to pursue secondary school education and after my high school, I moved to Canada with my family. I do feel a great sense of connection with all three places and I feel fortunate enough to have experienced three different cultures so early in my life. I am a mother of three (2 humans and 1 canine) and they bring all the joy in my life.
MG: Tell us how or when did you discover your passion for nails?
Even though I went to college for a degree in Business Administration, I always felt I should have been in Arts. Despite multiple jobs in the retail industry, I was never happy. I am a self-taught painter and always found joy painting and drawing. I received very positive feedback on my paintings from friends and family and that’s when I knew I had to change my professional path. In 2012, I watched a nail art video on YouTube and was amazed to see how one could draw on those tiny nails with precision. The designs looked so beautiful on nails and that’s when I decided to paint my own nails as a hobby. In 2014, I decided to make a YouTube channel and started filming my own nail art designs. The love and support I received from my followers gave me the confidence I needed to pursue a career in nails.
MG: Describe a day in your life! Do you have any other hobbies besides doing nails?
My day starts with a mission – get my kids ready for school. Once they are off to their school, I sit in a corner to enjoy my coffee. No one disturbs in those 10 minutes. Soon, I will receive my first client of the day and that gets me going. As a home-based salon, I set my own hours and choose my own clients. I truly and deeply love my clients who are mostly working moms and appreciate the intricacies for a nail design. I can’t get enough of my chats with them and their appreciation for the art fills me with joy.
Besides nails, I have two passions – Organization and Astrology. I spend hours organizing my home every week and ensure there is no clutter anywhere in the house. I am also hugely interested in Astrology. I read a lot about human behaviors through the lense of horoscopes and numbers and I am always amazed how accurate some predictions are.
MG: What Nail Trends do you think will be in 2023?
Trends keep changing every year. I see and do a lot of ombre florals and French tip designs and looks like it is here to stay in 2023
MG: What is your favorite Madam Glam product?
It is a very tough one but all the “Perfect collection” colors. My most favorite is Rosy Nude color because you can wear it throughout the year. It looks great on every skin tone. With shiny or matte top coat, it is a great background color for a fun nail art!
MG: Do you believe in Astrology? What’s your sign and the favorite thing about it?
Yes, I strongly believe in astrology, it is my favorite subject to talk about. I am a Capricorn and the best thing about them is that they are very persistent and generally self-made.
MG: What inspires you when creating your Nail Art designs?
Many things - music in the background, abstract art, nature and of course, when I see work of others on social media.
MG: Who would be your dream-celebrity client?
Shakira – she is such a graceful dancer and I find her very talented. Dancers always use many hand gestures so nails are always on display.
MG: Describe yourself using 3 emojis or words.
Creative, Resourceful and Simple
MG: Do you have any tips or advice to share with our community?
Never stop learning. It keeps the hunger alive, and motivates you to work harder for your goals.
