Maria MGThe new episode from "Confessions of a Nail Tech" has Alma as a guest- a talented nail tech from Pecos, Texas. She's the Queen of Coffin Nails and creative designs who quit her office job and decided to step into the Nail Art World. Let's discover her story!
MG: How did you get your start in your nail career?
It is kinda bizarre because I only used to wear nail extensions for special events, but my best friend used to wear them long and detailed all the time so I first saw a business opportunity and later found a true passion for the art. I was working a super stressful office job and decided that I needed time to interact with more relaxing people, so I opened my nail salon in partnership with my best friend as a secondary business. I moved out of town and never wanted to get back to the stress so here I am, enjoying making art, getting to know new people and very happy in an extremely friendly environment every day!
MG: Who was/is your biggest inspiration for your nail technician career?
It never was one sole inspiration, there are many incredible artists such as @home_of_deva, @vincentnails, @nailchampion_ and many many more.
MG: Why did you start the Instagram channel?
Since I was in a new city, knowing a handful of people, I wanted to expand into the platforms where people could see my work, hoping I could get more clientele!!
MG: Did you ever expect you will make such an impact and create your very own community?
Not at all, I’m actually very humbled for the incredible support and acceptance I’ve had. All this drives me to improve my craft.
MG: What are your goals/dreams for the future?
To continue to make people super happy when they walk out of my table. That has been my priority since I started in the industry and if I inspire others to do the same, it would make me twice as happy! Eventually I would love to open my own studio again and continue to expand knowledge.
MG: What is most challenging about what you do?
When my vision and the client’s vision don’t click which is something we have all experienced!!
MG: How many gels do you own?What are your 3 fav gels from Madam Glam?
I have a lot!! But if I had to choose 3 to wear all the time, it would be: Am I Clear, Super Busy and Hear Me Roar!
MG: Describe your ideal manicure
The one that puts the biggest smile on the client. Whether it be a simple one color or the most elaborated and detailed design.
MG: Which celebrity would be your dream client? Why?
Definitely Jennifer Lawrence, I love her personality, so authentic and fun!! Also Keanu Reeves if he did his nails, he is an amazing human being!
MG: Your biggest tip for the perfect DIY manicure?
Be careful not touching the skin and GO CRAZY, most trends start with some wild design.
MG: What advice would you offer someone considering this career?
Go for it, be good at it and be professional. This industry is always based on patience and practice, plenty of both will take you far!
