Meet sonyas.nails: The Nail Artist Behind the Cherry Sweetheart Bundle

After spending 10 years as a stay-at-home mom, Sonya followed her passion for nails and built a career that combines creativity, flexibility, and family life. She believes a great manicure is about more than beautiful nails, it's about helping women feel confident, creating a welcoming space where clients can relax, and building meaningful relationships along the way.
1. What got you interested in doing nails in the first place, and when did you start thinking, “I could actually make this my career”?
I’ve always had a passion for nails and loved doing my own. I purchased a gel lamp for my daughter for Christmas one year, and I was instantly hooked. I quickly realized how much I loved doing my daughter’s nails and doing nails for others, too.
2. How did you get started in this industry, and what made you realize that nails were the area you really wanted to focus on?
After being a stay-at-home mom for the past 10 years, I was ready to pursue a career. It was very important to me to choose a career path that allowed for flexibility and the ability to work from home. Becoming a nail tech has been the perfect fit for me as a mom of four.
3. If you had to describe your nail style in three words, what would you choose?
Classic, simple, and clean.

I wanted beautiful, fun colors that were complementary, versatile, and suitable for a variety of designs.
6. What’s one thing about you that your followers would probably never guess?
I love working in my yard! Being outside and making it beautiful is my happy place, and I find it very therapeutic.
7. When life gets really busy, what does a hectic week usually look like for you?
It’s usually full days of nail appointments, keeping my house organized and running smoothly, making sure my family is taken care of and well fed, and volunteering with my church youth group.
8. What do you love most about being a nail artist, and what’s something about the job that people often get wrong?
I love creating beautiful nails that help women feel confident and happy. I also love building relationships with amazing women. It’s more than just doing nails. It’s about creating a safe space where clients can relax, feel comfortable, feel cared for, and leave feeling their best.
One thing people may not realize about being a nail tech is that it’s not just about painting nails. It takes a lot of training, precision, and attention to detail.
9. What nail trend are you always happy to try, and is there one you think we could all take a little break from?
I love doing cheetah nails! It’s such a fun, quick design that looks good no matter your age.
I wouldn’t mind taking a little break from 3D nails. They’re so cute, but not always very functional. The products can also be tricky to work with and sometimes frustrating to create.
10. If you could give your younger, just-starting-out self one piece of advice, what would you say?
Never feel bad about being honest with a client about your abilities. If you don’t think you can replicate a design, help them find one that’s more suitable for your current skill level.
