Confessions of a Nail Tech: Meet miaambernails
Maria MGMeet Mia: The Nail Tech Behind the Ivory Bloom Bundle
Welcome back to Confessions of a Nail Tech, our monthly series celebrating the artists shaping the nail industry. This month, we’re shining the spotlight on MiaAmberNails, a talented nail technician and founder of FortyFourAcademy in Staffordshire.
Using her favourite Madam Glam products, Mia has created her own exclusive bundle, Ivory Bloom. We caught up with her to chat about her childhood, her journey into the nail world, and the things that inspire her every day. Read the interview to get to know Mia and discover how you can shop this month’s limited-edition bundle.
1. When did you first realize nails were more than a hobby and could become your career?
I think it was when more and more people were booking in with me and asking for nail art. Word of mouth started spreading about my skills and it made me feel really excited. I wanted more, so I took the leap and handed in my notice.
2. As a kid, were you artistic or crafty? What was your first ever beauty or nail “experiment”?
I was born artsy. At after-school club, I was always in the craft corner rather than playing outside with the other kids. I was constantly drawing and painting, and during the six-week school holidays we’d have “craft days” — I had a huge craft box full of supplies! My first experiment was a Facebook page called Amia Nail Art that I created with my cousin, where we would make and post things we had painted.
3. If your nail style had a personality or vibe, how would you describe it in 3 words?
Chaotic, bright, and fun.
4. When did you first discover Madam Glam, what made you fall in love with it, and do you have a must-have shade you can’t live without?
I was actually contacted by them during lockdown and was sent a starter kit to try on social media — this was way before I became a nail tech. When I eventually became a nail technician, I reached out again and our relationship developed from there. One shade I cannot live without is the Deep Burgundy — it’s everyone’s favourite all year round!
5. You have your own bundle. What are your top 3 reasons people should grab it?
My bundle has a bit of everything. You get art styling gel that’s perfect for fun summer sets, a soft brush so your clients’ hands get the same TLC as their nails, and a no-wipe top coat that’s essential for chrome while giving a super-shiny finish. Petals can be tricky, and with that season coming up, this brush makes everything easier. A staple baby pink gel is a must, and the base coat is a gorgeous foundation for anything summery or wedding-inspired.
6. What’s your go-to song or playlist that instantly puts you in the nail-art zone?
My current go-to is anything from the new Harry Styles album — it really helps me focus.
7. What does a really busy week in your life look like? (The glamorous and the not-so-glamorous parts.)
Honestly, my life is always very busy! A really hectic week would be content creation on Monday, a 28-client week, and then a jam-packed weekend full of events and meeting friends.
8. What’s the biggest pro of being a nail tech and what’s the part nobody talks about?
The biggest pro is choosing your own hours and deciding who you want as your clients. The part nobody talks about is the headache of rearranging appointments — you can’t swap one client until another confirms, and trying to rejig your calendar can be stressful!
9. What’s a nail trend you secretly love… and one you secretly wish would disappear?
I absolutely love anything 3D. But by the end of summer, I’ve usually had enough of doing blooming flowers because they become the go-to request.
10. If you could go back to day one of your nail career, what would you tell yourself?
I’d tell myself to enjoy it more and be more confident on social media. Believe in the skills I had early on and trust that everything will work out in the end.
